Open to Public

RIMMBA's signature Natural Dye Workshop is held in Bali. We invite you to slow down, touch the natural fabrics and plant-based pigments, so that you can learn by doing. In this calm setting, surrounded by Bali's nature, we focus on simple and easy steps that reveal how plant-exracted color behaves on different fabrics.

Led by Karunia Fischer and the RIMMBA team in Bali, the workshop uses hands-on practice to introduce you to botanical dyeing. First we prepare small batches; then we make short tests to see how pigments settle. Because learning happens through practice, during RIMMBA's workshops in Bali we teach slowly and repeat where helpful.

Our Natural Dye workshop suits beginners as well as experienced creatives alike. Groups are kept intentionally small so that every participant receives personal attention. As a result, the experience feels intimate and learning feels relaxed rather than rushed.

How the workshop unfolds:

  • We begin with an introduction to common dye plants and their color profiles
  • Next, we prepare the fabrics and mix gentle baths to extract the natural pigments
  • Then, we test and observe how organic fibers dyes and how color shifts
  • Finally, we discuss simple care ideas so that your naturally dyed garment lasts

Throughout the workshop, we connect in a mindful manner and teach ethical and sustainable use of plant dyes and natural fabrics. We will explore why natural color changes with time, temperature, and different fabrics. You will learn how to work with those changes, rather than against them.

Our Natural Dye Workshop in Bali:

RIMMBA's Botanical Dye session is a practical-session as much as a class. Rather than promising exact shades and hues, you will learn ways to notice and respond to changes in plant-based pigments and natural fabrics. For example, you may see a leaf give one tone in the morning and a softer one later; noticing that, teaches you how small choices affect outcomes in plant-based dyes.

During the workshop you move through short cycles of action and reflection: try, look, and then adjust. Because confidence builds through experience instead of pressure: conversation and quiet moments both have their place in our natural dye workshop.

During the workshops in Bali, we also cover practical care: how gentle washing and simple storage help preserve natural dyes. You will also learn how to think about stewardship when collecting plant materials. In short, the focus remains on sustainable practice and ethical making.

That said, the experience is rooted in hands-on botanical dyeing, and the session always emphasizes process, presence, and kind making.

RIMMBA's team will guide you and your guests through the dyeing process in a relaxed, creative atmosphere. Before your event, we’ll connect with you to understand the occasion and tailor the pieces to match your theme.

Requirements

Plant dyes will be determined based on seasonal availability. RIMMBA works with avocado seeds, annatto, brazilwood, indigo, marigold and onion skins.

Payment in full is required to secure your booking. All payments can be made via our RIMMBA website.

The Workshop requires intensive preparation and additional staffing on the day. The Workshop will commence on time and finish on time regardless of when attendees arrive.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

In the case of emergency or illness within your group, we are happy to reschedule the workshop to a later date. Please note that no refunds can be offered in these cases.

If you choose to cancel your booking, we offer a 50% refund for cancellations made at least 1 week prior to the scheduled workshop date.

Cancellations made within 1 week of the event are non-refundable due to the preparation, materials, and time invested in curating your experience.
