RIMMBA is as an ethical fashion brand producing high quality designer swimwear and garments made to be worn and cared for many years.
RIMMBA’s Standards for Sustainability
1. Sustainable and durable fabrics coupled with expert workmanship to assure a long useful life.
2. Environmentally-responsible production methods, such as low-impact printing and dying.
3. Fair wages and healthy work conditions for all levels of workers involved with RIMMBA garment production.
4. ZeroWaste Prevention Policy throughout production in their work.
RIMMBA is very aware of the waste and pollution caused by the fast fashion industry and we are definitely not in that club. We are all about being a counter-resistance to trend-focused, fast and cheap fashion. RIMMBA respects the rights and talents of each person involved in the making of our garments and we step up to the challenges of tracing our supply lines and planning for efficiency and zerowaste in all phases of production. Our mission is to design and produce original fine garments which are sewn skillfully and with dignity to be worn and cherished over many years, repaired if necessary and never end up in a landfill. And we do it all with the softest environmental footprint we can. So how do we do that?!?
Firstly, our garments are made from sustainable and quality textiles, sourced from reputable suppliers. Secondly, our production methods follow environmentally responsible standards for low-impact printing and dying. Thirdly, our garments are sewn by empowered artisans who take pride in their work and are provided with healthy work conditions and fair worker wages. And lastly, we prevent waste of energy, resources, material and time throughout every phase of production with effective management and planning.
RIMMBA's largest collection is our Designer Swimwear. Our fabric is the Italian textile called Carvico Vita: Vita is made from 78% verifiably recycled post consumer content and surpasses maximum standards for durability.
Our Luxury Swimwear Fabric Carvico Vita: 78% ECONYL Recycled polyamide, 22% Elastane.
Carvico Vita has been proven to meet the highest UV resistance standard of UPF+50 and also proven to surpass the highest standards for resistance to chlorine, sunscreen chemicals and oils. The microfibers shed from poor quality synthetic garments can harm our environment however Carvico Vita is pile-resistant and unlikely to leave microfiber waste. After much research and testing, we are confident that Carvico Vita nylon provides the best durability benefits available for swimwear, while also providing a smooth stretch and flattering fit.
Why don’t we choose a cheap nylon produced in China? Swim and activewear fabrics are usually synthetic and hence require finite fossil resources to produce the polymer for the yarns. And although nylon is infinitely recyclable, it is rarely recycled. Our swimsuits did not require first generation virgin nylon.
"The future of sustainability lies in regeneration: seeking to restore and replenish what we have lost, to build economies and communities that thrive, and to allow the planet to thrive too." The New Sustainability: Regeneration.(link)
We choose Carvico Vita because the ECONYL nylon content is made from 100% regenerated post-consumer waste.
All phases of Carvico Vita’s production, from the recycling process to the dying of the brilliant ECONYL colors to the final production of the fabrics are achieved in accordance with EU environmental standards. ECONYL’s feedstock is post-consumer nylon such as rescued fishing nets, carpets and landfill waste (*see our IG Highlights about ECONYL’s teamwork with partners who rescue ghost gear and fishing nets from the ocean to make our oceans safer for wildlife).
RIMMBA’s natural fabric collections include responsibly sourced Cottons, Silks and Linens. Our commitment to preserve biodiversity, local culture and heritage is expressed in our special collections available in natural colors. Each unique garment is artisan-dyed, using traditional techniques. Our colors are 100% natural plant-based, made from locally sourced botanicals native to Indonesia. (See our IG My Story Highlights on Botanical Dyes).
ONCE LOVED CLOTHES NEVER GO TO LANDFILL: We encourage RIMMBA owners to never throw away a garment. Garments can be repaired if needed and if no longer loved can be given as a gift or to an opt shop.
Watch our IG for more tips on how to give a new life to your RIMMBA garments. One recommendation is to create a Once Loved Clothes (OLC) Pillow Case* to fill with your OLC. You can always unpack your pillow at any time and fall in love with a garment all over again. Encourage your friends to also make or purchase a OLC Pillow Case and consider to host OLC Parties. Everyone brings their pillow, Everyone goes home with new OLCs. Celebrate that! *RIMMBA OLC Pillow Cases will be available in the near future.
